WHAT IS THE ANSWER TO GUN VIOLENCE?

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The Second Amendment states, as a citizen of America, we have the right to keep and bear arms while the government may not interfere with that right. To protect and further this right, the Fourth Amendment stands and expresses, "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated..."

Many think during the revolutionary times, people utilized firearms for hunting and other remedies, however that is true, but that is not the exact reasoning the Second Amendment stands. The revision announces the right to "bear arms," meaning "carry a weapon," was designed to help early people protect themselves from a dictatorial government taking away their rights. As for recent years, the idea of the Second Amendment holds different outlook.

Gun Laws

Many people are questioning whether our amendments are protecting the rights of individuals to own a gun or is it doing our nation harm. The Second Amendment does allow people to own guns, but it does not prevent government regulations of firearms. Our gun laws are presented to keep firearms out of the hands of the ill and scandalous criminals, track different firearms, and control what type of weapons citizens are entitled to own. In addition, each state of our nation has its own set of gun laws entitled for their citizens to withhold to help control and maintain the acceptance of guns. "Gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions."Gun control is the largest debate  However, in recent years, guns have been needed for self-defense as well as foreign hazards that have been occurring in communities all around the world. Because of number of mass shooting occurring around the world gun violence is at its extreme.

Gun Violence is Increasing

Mass shootings reoccurring around the world have jolted Americans in their tracks. It seems as if shooting incidents are heard of more frequently and are more popularly discussed than COVID statistics. Americans of all ages are witnessing these horrific episodes nationwide and too, left and right. In my opinion, gun violence has been been brought to the attention of others, but not brought to them equally! Every state holds their own specific gun laws regarding their territory of laws, where other states contribute different laws concerning the same affiliation. For an example, the state of California is known to have "the most restrictive gun laws in the country," whereas, Arizona on the other hand, is known to be the "most lenient" state when owning a firearm. Government officials are troubled on how to handle this massive controversy between the right to bear arms or cancel out gun as a whole. Due to the massive disturbances of the recent attacks reported, Americans are "Rethinking Gun Violence."

According to ABC News, gun violence "touches all corners of the country," but only comes into existence as a focal point when dealing with mass shootings. The U.S. Government Accountability Office released a report in late June 2021, explaining that it costs the health care system 1 billion dollars a year for injuries only.

There are also the 2,606 gun deaths by law enforcement between 2015 and 2019, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

the most recent data from health officials shows that suicides account for the bulk -- over 60% -- of gun deaths in America. And gun injuries, while they rarely make the news, put a tremendous burden on both American families and the health care system, according to health researchers.
